Robert E. Woodfin is the third son of Jake and Carrie A. Woodfin. Born in Uniontown, Alabama, he attended Uniontown Negro Elementary School and Perry County Training Schools before migrating to Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1961. After graduating from Central High School in 1965, he joined the United States Marine Corps in 1966 and served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969.

He later joined the Air Force, completing thirty years of service to his country. Woodfin earned master’s degrees in Human Resource Management from Troy State University and Education from the University of Phoenix. He currently lives in Tucson, Arizona.
